Hollyhock Seeds

"This is a tall plant, six to eight feet high, with thick round stalks and hairy round leaves; the floures grow upon the stalk, coming forth with the leaves, being very large, of one leave cut into divers segments, and of divers colours."

Cultivation: The seed is best started into growth in a cold frame, or open soil in April or June and July. The seedling being set aside, or thinned (one to another) some 1 inch. When large enough to be planted they should be placed from 12 to 18 inches asunder in shade or partial shade, and kept moist.

The Sandringham Seed Collection: Thomas Etty Seeds started in Kent in the 1980s and have been providing Sandringham with various heritage seed mixes for some years. The Head Gardener has collaborated with the company to provide a collection of seeds from plants grown in the gardens. Now you can grow your very own Sandringham Garden!
