Heliotrope Seeds

An essential oil obtained from the flowers is used in perfumery. The plant is sometimes used as a low hedge, although it is not hardy enough in Britain for this purpose.

Cultivation: Sow early spring in a greenhouse and only just cover the seed. Germination usually takes place within 2-25 days at 20C. When they are large enough to handle, prick the seedlings out into individual pots and plant them out after the last expected frosts.

The Sandringham Seed Collection: Thomas Etty Seeds started in Kent in the 1980s and have been providing Sandringham with various heritage seed mixes for some years. The Head Gardener has collaborated with the company to provide a collection of seeds from plants grown in the gardens. Now you can grow your very own Sandringham Garden!
